"Minions & Monsters," the animated "Despicable Me" prequel, grossed approximately $61 million domestically over its five-day opening spanning Wednesday, July 1, through Sunday, July 5, 2026, falling short of its reported $85 million production budget. The figure, reported by Deadline and Variety, marked the lowest opening in the franchise's history, trailing even 2010's original "Despicable Me." It represented a steep drop from the franchise's two most recent entries, 2022's "Minions: The Rise of Gru" and 2024's "Despicable Me 4," which each opened above $120 million over the comparable five-day holiday stretch. The film still topped the domestic box office for the July 4 weekend, narrowly beating Pixar's "Toy Story 5," and performed more strongly overseas, adding roughly $86 million internationally for a worldwide total near $160 million. The domestic total nonetheless came in about $24 million below the production budget. The Predict Six community misjudged this outcome: 91 percent expected the five-day domestic gross to exceed the budget, but the actual figure fell well under it.
