Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro, unveiled Oct. 28, 2026, started below the $3,000 mark bettors had weighed. The entry 14-inch configuration, built on an M5 Pro chip with a tandem OLED "PROLED XDR" display, launched at $2,899. Only the larger 16-inch model crossed $3,000, starting at $3,399, with M5 Max versions priced at $4,499 and $4,799. The $2,899 starting price is roughly $900 more than the standard 14-inch MacBook Pro, which Apple had refreshed with its M6 chip a day earlier at $1,999 โ€” positioning the touchscreen line as a separate, higher-end tier rather than a replacement for the existing Pro lineup. Apple also introduced a U.S. leasing plan starting at $55.99 a month and education pricing from $2,749, both below the $3,000 threshold on the entry model.

Thirty percent of bettors had predicted the starting price would reach $3,000 or more, and the community correctly leaned toward a sub-$3,000 entry price. The pricing followed months of supply-chain reports suggesting the new OLED touchscreen display and other components would carry a steep cost premium, though Apple ultimately kept its cheapest configuration under that mark, reserving the higher price points for its largest-screen, highest-spec models.
