All three candidates endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani swept their Democratic House primaries in New York on June 24, 2026, marking a clean victory for the progressive left and a significant blow to the Democratic establishment.
Former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander defeated five-term incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman in the 10th District, capturing roughly two-thirds of the vote. In the 13th District, the nights biggest upset saw 32-year-old community organizer Darializa Avila Chevalier narrowly defeat five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat. State legislator Claire Valdez won the open 7th District, where retiring Rep. Nydia Velázquez had endorsed Mamdanis opponent.
The results demonstrated Mamdanis ability to convert his mayoral coalition — built around the Democratic Socialists of America and younger progressive voters — into down-ballot congressional influence. Two sitting incumbents lost their seats. The sweep represents the most consequential leftward shift in the New York congressional delegation in years and positions the Mamdani coalition as a major force in city and state Democratic politics heading into November.
