Home Depot reported second-quarter fiscal 2026 comparable sales growth of 1.7%, with U.S. comparable sales up 1.3%, both exceeding the 1% threshold set in the market question. Net sales rose 5.7% to $47.9 billion, and diluted earnings per share reached $4.79, up from $4.58 a year earlier; adjusted EPS of $4.92 topped analyst estimates of $4.73. The result marked Home Depot's strongest comparable-sales performance since the third quarter of fiscal 2022.

The increase was driven primarily by professional contractors, who outperformed do-it-yourself shoppers, with gains concentrated in categories such as lumber, decking, portable power and fasteners. A 2.8% rise in average ticket size offset a roughly 1% decline in customer transactions, while online sales grew 11% for a fifth straight quarter. Executives attributed the results to broad-based demand for smaller renovation projects and continued integration of the SRS Distribution and GMS acquisitions.

Home Depot reaffirmed its full-year guidance of total sales growth between 2.5% and 4.5%, even as management described housing-market conditions as frozen, citing elevated mortgage rates that continue to depress large remodeling projects and existing-home turnover.

The prediction-market community assigned this outcome a 75% Yes probability across four votes, correctly anticipating that comparable sales would exceed 1%.
