OpenAI's new always-on 'dots' agents are locked behind a $100-a-month plan. Will ChatGPT Plus subscribers get them by Oct 14?

OpenAI unveiled "dots," a line of always-on AI agents, at its DevDay event on Sept. 29, 2026. The company gated the feature to paid tiers, with the cheapest access starting at the $100-a-month ChatGPT Pro plan or a $125-per-seat Business Premium subscription. Free, Go, and the $20-a-month Plus tier were explicitly excluded at launch, meaning Plus subscribers did not gain access by Oct. 14 as the question asked. Pro subscribers in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the European Economic Area were also locked out at launch.
OpenAI said the pricing reflected the computing cost of running agents that operate continuously in the background rather than responding only to direct prompts, connecting to calendars, email, and other apps to complete tasks autonomously. The company cited that sustained server load in restricting dots to its higher-paying tiers at launch rather than extending it broadly to Plus right away.
No announcement extending dots to Plus subscribers followed in the roughly two weeks between DevDay and the question's Oct. 14 deadline. The community largely anticipated this: just 18% of voters predicted Plus users would get access by that date, correctly forecasting that OpenAI would keep the feature behind its premium paywall.
