"Mutiny," the Jason Statham action thriller from Lionsgate, did not crack the top three at the U.S. box office for the weekend of Aug. 21-23, 2026. The film opened in sixth place domestically, earning roughly $2.8 million on its Friday debut across about 2,700 locations and tracking toward a projected three-day opening near $7.4 million.
The top three spots went to "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," which took first place for a fourth consecutive weekend with roughly $36.5 million; the horror sequel "Insidious: Out of the Further," which opened in second with about $23.7 million; and "The Odyssey," which held third in its sixth weekend with an estimated $18.5 million. Mutiny's underperformance was attributed to stiff competition from the Insidious debut and Odyssey holdover, as well as an accidental full-film leak of the movie on a streaming service days before its theatrical release, which analysts said likely cut into ticket demand.
The result came amid a record-setting summer 2026 domestic box office, powered largely by "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "The Odyssey." On Predict Six, 67% of the three community votes correctly predicted "Mutiny" would not reach the top three.
