The Boston Red Sox acquired catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles roughly an hour before the Aug. 3, 2026 MLB trade deadline, in a package that sent pitching prospects Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon, outfield prospect Enddy Azocar, catcher Carlos Narvaez and a player to be named later to Baltimore, with the Orioles also including catcher Jake Rogers in the return to Boston. At the time of the trade, Rutschman was on the injured list with a wrist injury that had sidelined him since mid-July. He did not join the Red Sox active roster immediately; instead he began a rehabilitation assignment with Boston's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester on Aug. 8. He remained without a major league at-bat for Boston through Aug. 9, when reporting indicated his activation was imminent, and he took part in workouts with the team in Toronto on Aug. 10, including catching a bullpen session and hitting from both sides of the plate in practice.
